Depth and breadth of expertise
The UA has very impressive strengths in a wide variety of academic disciplines. It is the only Research I University (the highest classification) west of the Mississippi that offers a degree in mining engineering. Thus, building upon existing strengths, the opportunity exists to make the UA the pre-eminent institution in the country for broad competence in issues facing the minerals business in the decades ahead. We know of no other university that sees or has this potential. Our industry certainly will need the type of effective, articulate leaders that such a program would produce in order to cope with the pressures we face all around us.
